Air and fire

In this article an in-depth look is taken at the connection between the elements Air and Fire. This article is part of a four part series, the other articles in the series are Connecting Earth and Air, Connecting Fire and Water and Connecting Water and Earth. The articles can be read in any order.

Associations

Traditionally Air is associated with the east, with the spring equinox and with dawn. Fire is associated with the south, with the summer solstice and with noon. Both Air and Fire are considered to be male. Air is considered to be constant and Fire inconstant.

Interpretations

The world is travelling from dawn to noon, from the first morning light to the full blaze of the hottest time of the day...

One aspect of Air is thought, knowledge, ideas. One aspect of Fire is passion, love, creativity, and everything that spurs us on. Connecting them has everything to do with making our ideas manifest, and with bringing our creations into this world. A balance between the two elements is needed: passion without thought is mindless, and may eventually lead to disaster; thought without passion is sterile, and lacks the drive to achieve anything.

Air and Fire... without Air the burning flame will die, but too much Air will blow it out. Only when Air and Fire are in balance the flame will burn brightly and shine its light on everything around it.

Both Air and Fire are male elements. One aspect of connecting Air and Fire is coming to terms with the archetypically male aspect of ourselves. All of us, males and females, have this aspect within us.
