More about this two-parter
This two-parter was first broadcast on April 26 - May 3, 2008. A brief and not really that spoiler(ish) summary of the plot: Sontar-HA!
Take the following ingredients (beware, spoilers ahead):
the Doctor;
Donna;
the Tardis;
Martha;
another Martha;
another clone;
another evil corporation (in this case it's a school as well);
evil new technology;
evil blue-collar zombies who never call in sick;
an evil boy genius;
an evil plan for world domination;
Sontarans;
UNIT;
Donna's family;
two cliff-hangers, one more successful than the other;
a bad-ass battleship;
fire and explosions;
nukes.
Put in a large pot. Add just a tiny dash of Rose. Stir.
What you get is this two-parter, a mix of things that persistently fails to become something other than a mix of things. Donna is great and the Sontarans are kind of cool, but everything else is fairly forgettable.
My verdict:
Sometimes the sum of the parts is just that.
