At the end of 1999 Fortune City began to suck. As a part of a site-wide redesign they rebuilt their web-based uploading utility. They went live with it when it was still full of bugs and practically unusable, leaving it to volunteers like me to answer the flood of angry and confused posts on the message boards. They also redesigned their message boards, making them difficult to use in Internet Explorer and impossible to use in Netscape, and effectively killing the community that had grown around them.
When I was no longer allowed to move the banner to the bottom of my pages, and huge pop-ups started to appear as well, I decided to leave. I left only a couple of help pages, redesigned to look OK with the banners on them.
